Кайл Кий стал новым оператором знаменитого театра Скотт Блок в Ред-Дире

Scott Block Theatre in Red Deer has new operator Published 9:45 am Tuesday, September 1, 2026 An iconic theatre in downtown Red Deer has found a new operator. Earlier this year, property owner Artifact Properties Ltd. announced the Scott Block Theatre would begin the search for a new operator. Kyle Key, who currently runs Ross Street Printing and publishes the “Red Deer Scene” magazine, will be leading operations at the Scott Block Theatre, which was originally built in 1947. “I want to make sure everyone knows what’s happening at the theatre, and bring awareness to the space and all the things happening in the space,” said Key, who previously owned the Velvet Olive, a former bar and live music venue in the city’s downtown. Key moved Ross Street Printing from its previous location on Ross Street to the second floor of the Scott Block building about a year ago. The building owners recently approached him about potentially taking over as Scott Block operator. “I thought it was an exciting venture and would be a way to get back to booking shows. (The Velvet Olive closing) was certainly a loss for artists stopping in Red Deer who would perform in a small- to medium-sized room,” said Key. “With the Scott Block Theatre, my goal is to put it on the map as a venue and market it as such. … I want to give it some more love and let everyone know there are two stages. There’s the main Black Box Theatre and the Centennial Stage in the back, which is a nice intimate theatre space with a raised stage that holds 50 or 60 people.” Juno-nominated artist Corin Raymond, as well as Noah Walker, will be performing at the Scott Block Theatre on Sept. 24. Artifact Properties Ltd. issued a statement regarding Key becoming the theatre’s new operator. “Kyle is a familiar face in Red Deer’s arts and business community, operating Ross Street Printing and publishing the Red Deer Scene magazine. He is also the former operator of the Velvet Olive and a performer himself, bringing hands-on experience from both sides of the stage,” Artifact Properties Ltd. stated. “We believe Kyle’s experience, community connections, and understanding of the local arts scene will bring exactly what the Scott Block Theatre needs as we move forward. We’re excited to have him on board and look forward to seeing what this next chapter brings for the theatre and its resident companies.”
