Safety, community partnerships focus of LPSS State of the District address LAFAYETTE, La. (Acadiana News First) - The Lafayette Parish School System held their State of the District address at Lafayette High School Wednesday night, where Superintendent Francis Touchet shared what’s new for the system this school year. Safety was a big topic of conversation at this year’s address. Touchet shared what steps are being taken to ensure students and staff are safe at all times through continued partnerships with local organizations, like the Sheriff’s Department. LPSS has also teamed up with other organizations to create opportunities for students to connect with what they’re most passionate about, from art to health and beyond. " Tonight was about making sure that we gave our viewers of Lafayette Parish an idea of what we are doing, but more importantly, of what we are trying to do, as far as improving this school system for every single person that is choosing it," Touchet said. Wednesday night’s address was also an opportunity to recognize the Teachers and Students of the Year. It also featured a visual and performance arts show put together by parish students.
