Впервые в истории: школьники Риди представили свои школы на конкурсе ораторского мастерства в парламенте Нового Южного Уэльса

MORE THAN 15 students across Ryde represented their schools at the inaugural Jordan Lane Speaking Competition, hosted by Ryde MP Jordan Lane, on Friday 14 August at NSW Parliament House. Students delivered a five-minute prepared speech responding to the question: “What’s a challenge facing young people today, and how can the government solve it?” Participants then faced a two-minute impromptu speech, given just ten minutes to prepare their response on the day. In the high school category, Ben from Epping Boys High School the winner. In the primary school category, Olivia from Eastwood Public School took out first place, with Lily-Eve from Eastwood Heights Public School awarded runner-up. All participants were applauded for the quality of their speeches and the confidence of their delivery, with judges praising the thoughtful and articulate way students engaged with the issues raised. The judging panel comprised TWT managing editor, Anthony Stavrinos; City of Ryde Councillor Shweta Deshpande; and City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown. Mr Lane congratulated all students on their hard work and preparation, saying it was fantastic to see young people given a platform to have their voices heard on the issues that matter to them. Between speaker presentations, Mr Lane engaged students, teachers and parents in attendance with his detailed grasp of ‘fun facts’ on various aspects of NSW Parliament House along with its fascinating history.
