Ryan Stevenson plays Baker City July 16 Published 5:00 am Monday, July 6, 2026 He’ll be joined by Desirae Bronson BAKER CITY — It’s been a few years since Ryan Stevenson played a show at the Baker High School football stadium, and this month he’s coming back to town for a concert on July 16 at Churchill School. Stevenson, a contemporary Christian singer-songwriter, will be joined by Desirae Bronson, who made her way to the Nashville scene in 2016 as a finalist in the Music City Songwriting Competition. She moved to Baker City in 2020 after several years of traveling between Boise and Nashville, where she played shows and collaborated on songs with other artists. Although she rarely performs live now, she continues to write songs for publishing companies. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $18 in advance at churchillbaker.com or $25 at the door. There’s a $5 discount for seniors, veterans/military and ages 16-21. Attendance is free for those 15 and younger who attend with a paid adult. Ryan Stevenson Stevenson grew up in Bonanza, a small town east of Klamath Falls. He started playing drums in second grade, then received an acoustic guitar as a graduation present from his youth pastor. “That opened up a whole other door for me,” he said. “It sparked a new love and passion.” He credits a college friend with helping him learn the guitar. “He came over with his guitar, and it just clicked,” he said. Performing, though, wasn’t really on his mind. “I never had any intention to sing or write music,” he said. But he’s always gravitated toward the written word. “My best subjects were literature, spelling and English,” he said. So he put pen to paper. “I started writing down what I wanted to say to God, what my prayers would be,” he said. Then he and the guitar-playing friend played at an open mic in Eugene, and they had quite the audience. “Over a hundred kids from our school showed up — the owner begged us to come back,” he said. As for their sound? “We were Linkin Park before there was a Linkin Park,” he said, citing the genres of reggae, surfer and pop music. He played with a band from college from 1997 to 2000, until it disbanded. “We all went our separate ways,” he said. Stevenson worked as a paramedic until 2010 — he worked two 24-hour days, then spent five days a week writing music and playing gigs. Then music took off, and he’s toured full-time since 2011. He and his family moved to Nashville in 2016, and he’s recorded multiple albums with Gotee Records. His newest, “Valley Lows, Mountain Highs,” was released in 2025. He describes his sound as “rhythm pop with a Northwest acoustic flair.” “I love writing music for everybody,” he said. “Human beings don’t have a story — we are a story.”
