The app expands on RTD’s existing NextRide web application and allows customers to view real-time vehicle locations and service alerts, purchase and store digital fares, and access customer support. Available in 10 languages, NextRide also incorporates functions previously offered through RTD’s MyRide and Transit Watch apps. Consolidating Rider Tools RTD said customer feedback helped inform the app’s development and usability features. “RTD is introducing a new mobile experience designed to make planning trips and purchasing fares more customer intuitive,” said RTD GM/CEO Debra A. Johnson. “Direct customer feedback informed app development and usability enhancements, including an easy way to report security concerns.” The app’s Security section enables customers to communicate directly with Transit Police dispatchers. Customers can use the feature to report concerns in real time while retaining access to RTD’s existing methods for contacting Transit Police. “NextRide brings multiple transit tools together in one convenient place for our customers,” said Deputy Chief of Police Sean Faris. “The app makes it easier to communicate concerns with Transit Police dispatchers in real time discreetly.” Additional Integrations Planned Existing MyRide users can sign in to NextRide using their current credentials, with fare products and eligible discounts transferring automatically, according to RTD. The agency plans to add additional services to the app over the next two years. Access-a-Ride trip planning is scheduled for incorporation in late 2027, followed by FlexRide trip planning in 2028. RTD also plans to phase out the standalone MyRide and Transit Watch apps as customers transition to NextRide. The agency said customers will receive advance notice before the legacy apps are discontinued. NextRide was developed using React Native and partner software development kits. RTD plans to collect customer feedback in the coming months to guide additional changes and enhancements to the app. Quick Answers The primary purpose of the NextRide app is to consolidate trip planning, fares, and security reporting for RTD customers. *Summarized by AI More Technology APTA Transform Conference & EXPO Exhibitor Spotlight METRO’s Exhibitor Spotlight provides a quick look at some of the companies exhibiting at this year’s event, including where to find them on the show floor.
