Состояние центра семейного мира в Рокфорде получит дополнительный федеральный грант на переезд

Rockford Family Peace Center receives funding boost for relocation project ROCKFORD, Ill. (Rockford News First) - The Rockford Family Peace Center receives more funding for its $10 million construction project, thanks to State Rep. Dave Vella, D-68, and the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois. Vella and the Community Foundation worked to secure $150,000 in federal grant money, which will go toward both construction costs and privacy film on every window in the building. Leaders say privacy film helps keep those within the building safer. “It’s paying for a lot of things that mean so much to the survivors who will come to this facility and expect it to be a safe, beautiful, and comfortable place. In a $10 million project, $150,000 may not sound like very much, but it means a lot to us because those dollars are outside of the scope of a typical construction. The security film and privacy film aren’t part of a typical construction project, so to have dollars we’re able to use towards that is very meaningful,” said Jennifer Smith, director of development for the Rockford Family Peace Center. The Family Peace Center is currently located at 315 N. Main Street in Rockford, with the construction project underway at its future location, 214 N. Church St., also in Rockford. Despite being out of his district, Rep. Vella says it’s still meaningful to him to be able to support the Family Peace Center because people from all over the area use it. “There’s going to be people coming here from Freeport, from Belvidere, from Rockford. They don’t turn people away, they take care of survivors here. This is not just going to be for the west side of Rockford or the east side of Rockford; this is going to be for the region. In my world, my job is to represent the state of Illinois and my district, and I think I’m doing that by helping out here,” said Vella. The new Family Peace Center will be a three-story, more than 40,000 square-foot building, which will be more than quadruple the size of the previous location. Leaders expect the project to be complete by December 2027. For more information about the project to build a new Family Peace Center, click here.
