В международном аэропорту Ричмонда открыли новую инсталляцию с тремя колибри

Richmond International Airport unveils art installation RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Richmond International Airport held a ribbon-cutting Tuesday for a new outdoor art installation featuring three hummingbirds, Virginia’s state tree and Virginia’s state flower. The 24-foot exhibit, titled “Travel Companions,” is located between the North and South Parking Garages. The project was designed by artist Matthew Mazzotta, who is known for other airport art projects, including a giant flamingo inside Tampa International Airport. Mazzotta began the project nearly two years ago after a committee of airport staff, local art professionals and community representatives wrote up a contract in February 2025. The airport said the public will have the opportunity to vote on the birds’ names later this year. “TRAVEL COMPANIONS is a celebration of nature, culture, and diversity, reflecting the rich ecological and social tapestry of Virginia,” said Matthew Mazzotta. “These winged travelers often share the very same flight paths we do, serving as a beautiful reminder of our coexistence within a shared world.” Passengers will get to choose the statue’s name from a list of two in the coming months. The two choices: Henry, after Revolutionary War figure Patrick Henry, or Hummie Mae, named after the hippopotamus Hammie Mae at the Metro Richmond Zoo. Copyright 2026 WWBT. All rights reserved.
