В Австралии обсудят влияние миграции на национальную идентичность и экономику

The second ABC National Forum takes place next Monday, as David Speers conducts a discussion on Australia’s migration status. Joining are Minister for Multicultural Affairs Anne Aly, Shadow Minister for Industry and Sovereign Capability Andrew Hastie, and One Nation Treasury Spokesman Barnaby Joyce. Australia’s welcoming migration policy has made it one of the world’s most successful multicultural nations. Yet a record number of Australians now say migration levels are too high — raising questions about what kind of country we’re becoming. The stakes are high: not just for our future prosperity, but our national identity. ABC National Forum brings together experts in immigration policy, leaders in business, education and regional communities, and everyday Australians to cut through the noise. Migration now dominates politics here as it does in Europe and the United States. Labor, the Coalition and One Nation all agree the intake is too high but disagree on how to fix it. We’ll test their policies and tackle the hard questions: why is net overseas migration so hard to reduce, which visa categories are on the chopping block, and what do migrants really contribute — and cost — in housing, infrastructure and the economy. We’ll also ask what’s happening to Australia’s five-decade commitment to multiculturalism — and why a once-celebrated program has become so divisive. Join the ABC National Forum as we look for answers. Live on Monday 14 September at 8:30pm on ABC.
