Регина Васкес рассказывает о 40-летней карьере в интимном документальном фильме «Songbird»

Regine Velasquez revisits her life, 40-year career in 'intimate' docu MANILA, Philippines — Regine Velasquez is opening up about her life and four-decade career in a new documentary “Songbird” that chronicles her journey in the music industry and the preparations for her upcoming concert, “Finale.” Produced by iMusic Entertainment in collaboration with GOAT Creative Studios, the documentary follows Regine as she prepares for the highly anticipated concert, giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look at her rehearsals and the emotions that come with revisiting a career that has spanned generations of Filipino music fans. Regine said the documentary was originally conceived by her and her sister, Cacai Velasquez, as part of her 40th anniversary in show business. “My sister and I really thought of doing this. Ito talaga 'yung gusto naming gawin,” she said. The project initially began as an idea for a book, but her sister eventually suggested turning it into a documentary. “Actually 'yung umpisa nito, I wanted to write a book. And we're also doing that. But then my sister said dapat parang documentary. My sister called Mike Carandang and here we are,” she said. A recently released teaser gives a glimpse of the documentary’s intimate approach. It features Regine during rehearsals with longtime musical director Raul Mitra, as well as personal moments from her life and career. Despite her decades of experience performing on stage, Regine admitted that major performances still make her nervous. The documentary also features family memories, childhood photographs, career highlights, and moments with her husband, singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid, and their son, Nate. Most personal For Regine, the project offers an opportunity to tell her story in a way she has not done before. “Marami nang nag-interview sa akin but not like this. From beginning to end. Well, almost end pero ito 'yung buong picture of how I started,” she said. She added that her perspective on her own journey has changed as she entered a different stage of her life. “I guess nga because I'm in this stage of my life na iba na 'yung perspective ko, parang pabalik na 'ko talaga. Iba na 'yung tingin mo. It's different how you tell the story now because I'm in this stage of my life now,” she said. Revisiting her past has also brought back memories and lessons from the different stages of her career. “So, I'm excited, actually, I'm excited to tell it. And somehow all the memories are coming back and all the lessons are coming back,” she said. More than documenting her accomplishments, the singer hopes the film will inspire viewers through the challenges, experiences and lessons that shaped her career. “I hope that people will really get inspired with my story and that's really what I want. I hope that I inspire a lot of people,” she said. The documentary comes as Regine marks 40 years in the entertainment industry, offering audiences a closer look at the person behind one of the Philippines’ most celebrated voices.
