Quincy University’s $12.2 million fundraising total second highest in school history
Published 3:13 pm Tuesday, September 1, 2026
QUINCY — When Brian McGee came to Quincy University (QU) nearly eight years ago, the goals for his presidency focused on academic, spiritual, physical, and financial renewal.
But ongoing progress toward one more goal, building a culture of philanthropy, supports the university’s long-term success and keeping the college experience affordable.
Creating that donor commitment led QU to announce its second-highest fundraising total in school history, generated in the 2025-26 fiscal year.
The university raised more than $12.2 million, including a number of leadership-level gifts in excess of $1 million each, and capped off a five-year stretch in which overall giving topped $10 million three times. The current record for total fundraising in a single year was set in 2024-25 with a total over $19.1 million.
“We’ve done it because of the very hard work of the people here today and the passion that so many people have for what QU special – a mission that emphasizes our Catholic and Franciscan identity, our commitment to the liberal arts while embracing new and different kinds of academic experiences for our students, and our deep commitment to servant leadership,” McGee said at a Tuesday press conference.
“Quincy University is moving forward with confidence,” he said. “We are investing in our students, our programs, our campus facilities, and our plans for the future.”
Record-setting QU Fund Drive tied into the fundraising success
Campaign Co-Chairs Andy ‘04 and Michaela ‘06 Tappe announced the 2025-26 effort raised more than $1,630,000, setting a new record.
The QU Fund is the university’s annual giving program and a vital source of support for every area of campus life. Gifts to the QU Fund provide scholarships, strengthen academic and athletic programs, and sustain the university’s mission-centered operations.
Exceeding the fund drive’s goal of $1.6 million, announced in October, “is a true reflection of the generosity and the confidence so many people have placed in QU,” Andy Tappe said.
“While we’re excited about the large number and generosity of so many that have given and supported, what’s more important is to really think about what that is serving,” Michaela Tappe said.
“Every dollar will make a direct impact on the students, the staff, the coaching, the teams preparing our young students to be the next generation of Franciscan servant leaders who will make a direct impact wherever they choose to live, work, and play,” she said. “Whether it’s a first-time donor of $1 or someone that gave $1 million, we are so grateful on behalf of students here today, students that will be here tomorrow, and students that will be here hopefully for years and years to come.”
Capitalizing on donor momentum, QU continues to invest in campus infrastructure and academic offerings.
Recent facility projects include residence hall upgrades, remodeled classrooms, engineering labs, entrepreneurial center, podcast studio, and new athletic staff offices. To enhance spiritual life, the university created a student chapel in Friars Hall, renovated Tau House, and expanded its campus ministry team.
In addition, the university hired new aviation faculty, grew its electrical and mechanical engineering programs, and continued preparation to launch a new clinical doctoral program in physical therapy.
“There’s a renewed sense of energy and possibility here at Quincy University. We are strengthening programs, investing in our campus, and taking meaningful steps forward, all rooted in our commitment to our mission and especially to the students that we serve,” said Dan Queathem, vice president for university advancement. “People see that progress and momentum and want to be part of it.”
