В Квинси пройдет традиционная церемония благословения спортсменов перед началом сезона

Quincy University to hold annual Blessing of the Athletes ceremony Published 3:44 pm Wednesday, August 26, 2026 QUINCY — Quincy University student-athletes will gather for the school’s annual Blessing of the Athletes ceremony at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at St. Francis Solanus Church, 1721 College Ave. The tradition marks the start of the athletic seasons and is intended to celebrate the gifts each athlete brings to their sport and to the university community. “The Blessing of Athletes invites each student-athlete to strive to become the best version of themselves — not only in their particular sport, but also as members of the Quincy University community,” said the Rev. John Doctor, OFM, a 1972 QU graduate and the university’s vice president for mission and ministry. “It calls them to recognize that their gifts, talents, and abilities are blessings from God, and that the proper response to these gifts is one of gratitude. Through this blessing, we pray that our athletes will use their God-given gifts with humility, purpose and excellence, both in competition and in their life as members of our university community.” Student-athletes will process from the main campus to St. Francis Solanus Church beginning at 6:50 p.m. Teams will sit together during the service, which will include scripture readings, a parish blessing, and a candlelight closing ceremony. Quincy University was founded in 1860 by Franciscan friars and is a small Catholic university emphasizing the sciences, liberal arts, and professional programs. The university offers undergraduate, graduate, and adult education programs that integrate practical experience with Franciscan values, and its athletic teams compete in NCAA Division II.
