Quincy Service Club to display 1,000 flags for 13th annual Field of Honor Published 10:03 am Tuesday, August 25, 2026 QUINCY — The Quincy Service Club will present its 13th annual “Field of Honor,” a display of 1,000 American flags, from Friday, Sept. 11, through Monday, Sept. 14, in remembrance of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The flags will be arranged between 15th and 16th streets, from Broadway to Vermont streets, on a lot donated by Blessing Hospital. The display will remain up continuously from 2 p.m. on Sept. 11 through 2 p.m. on Sept. 14 and will be illuminated each night, which organizers say is when many visitors prefer to see it. Admission is free. Visitors are welcome to drive past the display along the Vermont Street side, stop at an information tent, and walk through the field of flags. Organizers encourage guests to bring cameras. New to this year’s display are a large logo commemorating the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday and a Veterans Memorial Wall, where visitors can write the name of a veteran. Donations collected at the site will benefit the VFW’s development of its Veterans Memorial display. Setup will begin at noon on Sept. 11, with members of the Unity-Payson football team assisting. Before installation, the Quincy Fire Department will water the field to soften the ground for the flagpoles. An information tent will be staffed by Quincy Service Club members from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily throughout the display. The Field of Honor has been held in previous years at the Illinois Veterans Home, Madison Park, and John Wood Community College. This year marks its 13th installment. Teardown is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Sept. 14. Proceeds from sponsorships raised through the event go toward Quincy community projects, organizers said.
