Театр Квинси представит британскую комедию «Спектакль, который идет не так» этой осенью

Quincy Community Theatre to stage comedy “The Play That Goes Wrong” this fall Published 10:13 am Thursday, August 13, 2026 QUINCY — Quincy Community Theatre will present “The Play That Goes Wrong,” a British farce about a theater production that unravels in real time, for two weekends this fall, with performances scheduled Sept. 17-20 and Sept. 24-27. The show follows the fictional Cornley Drama Society, an amateur troupe attempting to stage a murder mystery called “The Murder at Haversham Manor,” only to be undone by a cascade of onstage disasters. Actors miss their cues, props go missing, scenery collapses, and technical effects misfire as the cast scrambles to reach the final curtain. The physical comedy relies on tightly choreographed mishaps that build into one escalating catastrophe after another. The cast includes Adrienne Fisk as Chris, Brodie Mann as Dennis, Cassie Schoene as Sandra, Jeremy Kurfman as Max, Matthew Zehnle as Trevor, Nicolas Moore as Robert, Prudence Bickhaus Martin as Annie, and Sjon Jones as Jonathan. Rounding out the ensemble in stage crew and understudy roles are Charly Nicholson, Gracie Jones, and Mason Ellison. Behind the scenes, Ethan Nienaber is directing the production, with Gretchen Wolfmeyer serving as production stage manager and Bailey McNamar and Jeannette Soebbing as assistant stage managers. Lorne Kelley is the scenic designer, Wesley Cone is the lighting designer, Jayden Dreyer is the costume designer, and Steve Looten is serving as stunt coordinator and fight choreographer. “We are so excited to welcome audiences back into our space with the hilarious ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ this September,” Nienaber said in a statement. “This murder-mystery, whodunit style of British comedy is a rare treat for both our volunteers on and off stage as well as our patrons. We look forward to creating genuine theater magic that will leave you asking, ‘How did they do that?!’ and have you on the edge of your seat while this wonderful cast and crew keep your cheeks sore from laughing at one of the best comedies written for the stage in the last decade.” The play was written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields and has drawn audiences internationally for its blend of physical comedy and theatrical sleight of hand, in which every apparent mistake is scripted and each new mishap raises the stakes further. Tickets go on sale Aug. 11 and will be available through the theater’s website or by calling the box office. The production is sponsored by Adams Fiber, State Street Bank, and KHQA. Quincy Community Theatre describes itself as a major theatrical resource for the Tri-State area, staging five major productions, three student productions, and a range of touring performances, workshops, and classes each year. The theater’s programming is supported in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.
