В Квезнеле продлили финансирование команды по уборке улиц на ещё один год

Quesnel Community Clean Up Crew receives one more year of funding Published 2:23 pm Monday, August 31, 2026 Funding for the Quesnel Community Clean Up Crew will continue for at least one more year. Prince George-North Cariboo MLA Sheldon Clare announced the funding confirmation in a news release following discussions with Northern Health regarding the community engagement coordinator who supports the peer-driven initiative. The Clean Team removes litter, discarded needles and other drug paraphernalia from public spaces throughout Quesnel seven days a week, helping maintain cleaner and safer areas for residents, businesses and visitors. The team focuses on high-traffic areas such as schools, parks and sidewalks. “I raised the importance of the Clean Team directly with Northern Health and was pleased to receive confirmation that funding for the Community Engagement Coordinator will continue,” Clare said. “This program delivers real results for Quesnel, helping improve public safety, maintain cleaner public spaces, and support a stronger community for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.” In an email to the Observer, Northern Health said the position was originally implemented and funded in partnership with the city. “While coordination of the city-run (and funded) Clean Team program was an element of the role, the position funded by Northern Health was created to support local partners, service providers and recipients in navigating community resources, and to enhance relationships between people who use substances and the service networks that support them,” the health authority said. NH added that funding remains in place to support community engagement coordination positions in Quesnel, Fort St. John and Smithers. Clare thanked Northern Health for its continued partnership, along with constituents, businesses, community organizations and the City of Quesnel for supporting the program. “I want to thank Northern Health for listening to the concerns raised by our community and recognizing the value of this initiative,” he said. “I am also grateful to the City, residents, businesses, and social service organizations who spoke up about the importance of the Clean Team. Their advocacy helped reinforce just how essential this service is to Quesnel. According to an October 2025 report, since August 2025, the Clean Team has collected 1,700 small white garbage bags and 106 large black garbage bags full of debris and has safely removed 730 needles off the streets. “Those numbers demonstrate the tremendous value this program provides,” Clare added. “The Quesnel Community Clean Up Crew makes a visible difference every day, and I am pleased that Northern Health will continue supporting this important work.”
