The snow-capped peaks of Utah’s Quarry Mountain and its more than two-mile trail for hiking and biking provide the perfect vantage points for taking in the area’s rugged terrain. Though designed to blend into the landscape, explorers with a well-trained eye for architecture might spot Quarry House, a contemporary mountain home by RKD Architects. The Park City mansion, sited on 30 acres, was built in 2015 by Go West Development for a couple who own a Napa Valley winery. They bought the land in 2011, records show, to create “a retreat for their friends and family to gather and enjoy the outdoors,” listing agent Michael LaPay of Summit Sotheby’s International Realty—Park City Mountain tells Mansion Global. With six bedrooms and six full bathrooms spread across more than 9,000 square feet, the home’s three distinct structures are connected by bridges and wrapped in curved glass encased in black steel frames. Cedar-clad ceilings, polished concrete floors, and limestone walls continue the material palette inside, where a massive wood-burning fireplace anchors the living room and rich walnut cabinetry lends warmth to the kitchen. Between the two, a dining area sits against a backdrop of sweeping views of the mountain range, while the rear patio extends the entertaining space outdoors with its own kitchen. Walnut paneling, a gas fireplace, and a stone-clad bathroom overlooking rolling hillsides are key features of the ground-floor primary suite, while one of the two en suite bedrooms on the upper floor opens to a wraparound terrace. An outdoor water feature, al fresco dining area, and fire pit complete the property, which, despite its seclusion, is conveniently located near Park City’s Main Street and the area’s ski resorts.
