Firefighters honored for flood rescue Posted/updated on: September 3, 2026 at 3:03 am LONGVIEW – Eight members of the Longview Fire Department Water Rescue Team were recently recognized for their work during the 2025 floods in Kerrville. The firefighters were recognized at the Swiftwater Rescue Conference in Oklahoma City on Aug. 27. During the conference, the Longview firefighters received the Higgins & Langley Memorial Award for their contributions during last year’s floods. The Higgins & Langley Memorial Award was established in 1993 and recognizes first responders who display excellence in rescue operations, preparedness, training, and teamwork while operating in dangerous environments. “This recognition is a tremendous honor for the Longview Fire Department. It reflects the countless hours our firefighters dedicate to training and preparing for the day when their skills are needed most,” the Longview Fire Department said.
