I stayed at the North Coast's most eye-catching boutique hotel - and one detail stole the show It was a brilliant stop for the end of the summer. The Elephant Rock opened its doors in Portrush in 2022 and has been a popular spot ever since and we were invited up to stay. We headed up around the North Coast to make the most of the final weekend of the summer. With a view of the ocean, you are immediately met by a hotel with an eye-catching dark grey and pink paint job, which fits right in with the coastal town. Once you walk in, you will be in the restaurant and bar area, but the friendly staff directed us to the reception at the back of the hotel to get checked in. Check-in was pretty smooth, and we were directed to our room, which was huge, with furniture that matched the rest of the hotel - bright and heavily patterned. The room was stocked with a few lovely touches that I noticed right away, like two bars of Melting Pot Fudge and some hot chocolate sachets. The bathroom, much like the room, was very big and came with a separate shower and bath, which is always a nice touch. It was also well stocked with FieldDay products, which were lovely. We had booked a late lunch for just after check-in, so we headed down for that, and the menu was packed full of options like small plates and like Buchanan's slow-cooked beef cheek and battered Atlantic cod. We decided to go for a few small plates, which were halloumi fries, duck croquettes, fish tacos and a side of skin-on fries. We also wanted to make the most of the Friday night and decided to grab a few cocktails while we were there. The cocktail menu was extensive, but we started off with the espresso fudge-tini, which had salted caramel-infused vodka and fudge shavings at the top. This was absolutely fantastic and used the same great Melting Pot Fudge that was in the rooms when we checked in. The barman here was absolutely fantastic and chatted us through the process of how they infuse the vodka with the fudge. The food arrived out with us pretty quickly, and I was really impressed with the portion sizes here because often with sharing plates they can be a little small, but there was plenty here. A couple of the dishes really stood out to me, and they were the duck croquettes, which are something I haven't seen before, and the fish tacos, which were delicious. We decided to grab another cocktail here and we both went for a daiquiri, which was absolutely stacked in the glass. They did come with a brain freeze warning, but that aside, they were a brilliant daiquiri. We headed back to the room for a while before heading out and about around Portrush and I took in just how clean and well presented it was. We got chatting to the manager at a point who also told us that they rent out dry robes, which are perfect if you fancy a walk along the sea or even to brave the water. All in all, this was a spot I will definitely return to the next time I head up to the North Coast because it was the perfect all-rounder hotel that really put some thought into their guests with some really nice touches throughout.
