В школах Портленда стартовал новый учебный год: вернулись более 6,2 тысячи учеников

Portland Public Schools welcomes students back to the classroom PORTLAND (WGME) -- More and more Maine students are heading back to the classroom. Monday, students in Portland had their first day of school. After more than 70 days of summer vacation, over 6,200 students in 16 schools began a school year that will take them all the way into June. Ryan Scallon enters his fourth year as superintendent with new challenges, including how to deal with A.I. A new state law was passed banning cell phones in school, but Portland instituted it last year, and they've seen a huge difference. Teachers and other staff members have been back in the classroom since last week and have some lofty goals. One major problem the past few years is no problem so far this year. The district has enough drivers for its 21 school buses and eight vans. While high school, middle school and elementary school students started school Monday, kindergarten and pre-K start Tuesday.
