В сети появилась коллекция из 2367 исторических плакатов и материалов времен Гражданской войны

Hundreds of rare posters and prints connected to Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War are now available to the public online through the Picturing Lincoln project from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. The collection features high-resolution images of historical materials from the 1860s, including a Southern newspaper declaring the end of the United States, promotional posters for Army units, rewards offered for freedom-seeking enslaved people, and even a “death certificate” for the Confederacy. The collection also includes several items connected directly to Abraham Lincoln. Visitors can view his famous speech in multiple languages, poems and stories about Lincoln, programs from Ford’s Theatre on the night of his assassination, and a schedule for the train that carried his body back to Springfield. There are also some unusual pieces, including a Lincoln-themed soap advertisement and a political poster accusing Lincoln of “tyranny.” The ALPLM recently added 882 “broadsides,” which generally include posters, handbills and other materials printed on one side. That brings the total number of images in the Picturing Lincoln collection to 2,367. The project was made possible through a $100,000 grant funded by the Illinois State Library. Library officials say many of these materials were originally intended to be discarded after serving their purpose, making the collection a rare opportunity to view pieces of history that might otherwise have been lost. The Picturing Lincoln collection can be viewed online through the Illinois Digital Archives at PresidentLincoln.Illinois.gov/PicturingLincoln.
