В аэропорту Уиллистона открыли экспозицию, посвященную братьям Слоулин, погибшим во Второй мировой войне

WILLISTON — Anyone flying to the Williston Basin International Airport will now have the opportunity to enjoy another piece of history while they wait for their luggage, as the Sloulin Brothers Photo Exhibit was unveiled in the baggage claim area there on Thursday. The exhibit is centered between the existing Monument to the Unknown display and Fort Union Association exhibit, joining other historically and culturally significant artwork and artifacts in telling a fuller history of the Williston area. ADVERTISEMENT The display highlights the stories of Williston area brothers Wesley and Kermit Sloulin, who both died serving their country during World War II. In the display’s center is a plaque commemorating the airport’s original naming of Sloulin Field in 1954. Above the plaque are original photos of each brother. On either side of the plaque are more plaques detailing the service and sacrifice of each brother, with the American flags that were presented to their family during their burial placed directly above each brother’s plaque. Following a tour of the airport, Military Affairs Committee President Brandon Delvo introduced attendees, including several members of the Sloulin family, to the unveiling ceremony. Delvo acknowledged many different people who were instrumental in putting the exhibit together, especially the Sloulin family for donating their cherished artifacts to the exhibit. Airport Director Ryan O'Rear also thanked those in attendance and called attention to the significance of keeping the story of the Sloulin brothers alive. “Sloulin Field was in Williston for many, many decades,” O’Rear said. “It’s amazing to be able to relocate and still call our terminal building the Sloulin Terminal and now finally bring something back to show passengers that are flying through, so they can get more history and know exactly why it's the Sloulin Terminal.” Koreen Sloulin then spoke about her family’s enduring pride in the Sloulin brothers, who were her uncles. Both brothers enlisted in the United States military to serve in World War II. Kermit Sloulin achieved the rank of second lieutenant before dying in the line of duty on Nov. 21, 1942, at the age of 30. Wesley Sloulin achieved the rank of first lieutenant as an aircraft pilot before also dying on Jan. 17, 1943 at just 23 years old. The Sloulin family members present also attended and spoke at the ribbon cutting ceremony for Sloulin Elementary School on Wednesday. Generations after the Sloulin brothers died in service of their country, the Sloulin Brothers Photo Exhibit will now greet anyone flying into Williston as a reminder of their sacrifice.
