Вандализм в мясной лавке в Суммерсайд: взлом системы охлаждения нанес ущерб на 100 тысяч долларов

Vandal cuts refrigeration line at Summerside Butcher's Shop, causing $100K in damage Staff discovered store's refrigeration wasn't working Staff at the Summerside Butcher's Shop say a vandalism incident last week will cost the store $100,000 in damages. Summerside police said an outside refrigeration line at the back of the business was damaged by an unknown person on Aug. 18, sometime between 9 and 9:45 p.m. Sgt. Grant MacLeod said the fuel tank used to keep the shop's refrigerators cold was empty as a result of the damage. The motivation for the incident, he said, is not yet known. "It appears to be damage to property and not a theft investigation," MacLeod said. "It appears to be related to damage that causes pressurized gas to leak out of the fuel tank." Angela Waite, the shop's operations manager, said staff entered the business the next morning and discovered the refrigeration was not working. The shop was closed for the day so products could be moved out of the affected coolers and freezers near the front of the store and into working ones near the back. Technicians later arrived from Moncton, she said, and managed to fix the damaged line. But the damage resulted in a loss of wages for some staff and a loss in revenue for the business. Waite said the butcher's shop plans to submit an insurance claim. "It's really heartbreaking. We're a small community business, family owned, operated. We're not a big corporate business. So it all falls on us and we do the best we can," Waite said. "It was a challenging day, for sure. But the team here, everybody pulled together. We have amazing staff. They worked tirelessly to get everything out of those coolers and freezers and get them back in the big ones. So we couldn't have done it without them." - Veterans in Summerside dismayed to see waste, vandalism around cenotaph - Victoria Park washrooms closed following weekend vandalism, says Charlottetown parks department MacLeod said the incident has also been reported to the provincial Department of Land and Environment. The next steps, he said, include reviewing video, interviewing potential witnesses and speaking with the property owner for more information. Police have also released images of a suspect that were captured on a surveillance camera. Anyone with information or who could identify the person in the photographs is asked to contact Summerside Police Services or P.E.I. Crime Stoppers. Waite said more cameras and fencing will be installed around the shop in hopes of avoiding a similar incident in the future. She hopes anyone with information will come forward. "We are a small community business. It's important to look out for your neighbours," she said. "If anybody sees anything … don't hesitate." With files from Gwyneth Egan
