By Elizabeth Osayande Lagos, Nigeria — Pan-Atlantic University Press has entered a strategic partnership with CLOCKSS to ensure the long-term digital preservation of its peer-reviewed journal, the Journal of Creative Media, JCM. CLOCKSS, which stands for Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe, is a not-for-profit, community-governed preservation organisation supported by academic publishers and research libraries globally. Using a geographically distributed archive built on LOCKSS technology, CLOCKSS keeps multiple copies of scholarly content. If the original content becomes unavailable, CLOCKSS triggers access and releases the material under an open license. Meanwhile, through the agreement, all published content of JCM will be securely archived in the CLOCKSS global digital preservation network. The move safeguards the journal’s scholarly output against technological failure and ensures permanent access for researchers worldwide. “This partnership reflects our commitment to international best practices in scholarly publishing,” said a spokesperson for PAU Press. “By placing JCM in a trusted global archive, we are guaranteeing that African research in media and the creative industries remains accessible for future generations.”* Boost for African scholarship The inclusion of JCM in CLOCKSS marks a major milestone for the journal and for PAU Press. It strengthens the journal’s credibility, discoverability, and resilience, while expanding the global reach of African scholarship in media and communication. Published biannually by Pan-Atlantic University Press and managed by the Centre for Media and Communication Research, CMCR, School of Media and Communication, JCM covers journalism, broadcasting, film, advertising, PR, music, performing arts, literary studies, and other areas within the creative industries. The journal aims to advance scholarship and foster dialogue between academia, industry, and policymakers on issues shaping media globally.
