Пастор призывает верующих пересмотреть масштаб своих проблем, сравнивая их с чужими страданиями

Pastor’s Pen: My problems seem miniscule Published 9:26 am Friday, August 14, 2026 There are times when we get so focused on what is happening in our own lives that our problems begin to look bigger than they really are. A bill that needs to be paid, a situation at work, a disagreement with someone, an uncertainty about tomorrow, or any other thing that can come to mind can consume our thoughts until we begin to believe that our problems are the biggest problems in the world. But sometimes God allows us to see something that changes our perspective. After what I have seen this week, I have found myself looking at some of the things I have been concerned about and thinking how small my problems really are. That doesn’t mean my problems aren’t real. It doesn’t mean the things that trouble me don’t matter. It certainly doesn’t mean that God doesn’t care about the burdens I carry. He does care. In fact, Scripture tells us to cast our cares upon Him because He cares for us. But sometimes we need a change of perspective. The Bible says in Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Notice that it doesn’t say God is our refuge only when our trouble is big enough. It doesn’t say He helps us only when our circumstances are worse than somebody else’s. It simply says that He is a very present help in trouble.” That means, any trouble, big trouble, small trouble, unexpected trouble, self-inflicted trouble, trouble we understand and trouble we don’t. He is still God in the middle of it. Sometimes we don’t realize how blessed we are because we have become so accustomed to our blessings. We complain about what we don’t have while forgetting how much we already have. We worry about tomorrow while overlooking the grace God gave us today. We become frustrated over inconveniences while somebody else is praying for the very things we take for granted. A bad day can make us forget that we have had many good days. One disappointment can make us forget about a lifetime of blessings. One unanswered prayer can make us forget all the prayers God has already answered. And sometimes, all it takes is seeing somebody else’s struggle to remind us just how good God has been to us. I have learned that perspective has a way of changing our attitude. The problem may not have changed, but suddenly I see it differently. The mountain may still be there, but I remember that God is bigger than the mountain. The circumstances may still be difficult, but I remember that I am not facing it alone. The burden may still be heavy, but I remember that I have somewhere to take it. That is why I don’t want to spend my life complaining about what is missing while overlooking what is present. I want to thank God for what I have. I want to appreciate the people He has placed in my life. I want to be grateful for the blessings I sometimes overlook. I also want to remember that even when my problems seem big to me, they are never bigger than my God. Maybe today we all need to stop and look around us. Not so that we can compare our suffering with someone else’s, but so that we can gain a proper understanding of our situation. Because after what I have seen this week, I have come to realize something important, some of the things I thought were problems were really just inconveniences. Some of the things I thought were burdens were really blessings I had failed to appreciate. And some of the things I have been worrying about aren’t nearly as important as I had made them in my mind. God has been good to me, God has been faithful to me, and when I stop long enough to remember that, my problems suddenly don’t seem quite so big anymore. Today, I am thankful for the problems that I have because I could have someone else’s. Pastor Steven Temple is the Pastor of The Church on the Hill in Rose Hill Va.
