Five stars for the Oxford AAA leather two piece suit that's less than £550 5 out of 5 9 Oxford Nexus 1.0 leather two-piece from Sportsbikeshop £299.99 View offer Contents of this review Take me to: Oxford has built its reputation on producing affordable kit across multiple levels, from true entry-level beginner gear to more premium offerings. The Nexus range arrived with a bang, shocking plenty of riders by achieving AAA CE certification at a price that significantly undercut much of the competition. It launched alongside matching gloves, boots and a one-piece suit, all pitched squarely at sports riders who want track-ready kit without spending superbike money. Related: The best superbikes of 2026! Here’s a look at some exclusive specials and our top picks so far The Nexus is clearly aimed at newer sportsbike riders, first-time track day users and anyone wanting the full leather look on the road without stretching their budget. It’s a leather suit with textile stretch panels, designed for aggressive riding positions but cut to suit normal human proportions rather than a MotoGP physique. I wanted to test it because AAA-certified leather at this price is almost unheard of, and I was keen to see whether the real-world performance backed up the headline spec. From first handling it, you can tell it’s built to a price. The leather doesn’t have the luxurious softness of premium suits and feels slightly rigid rather than plush. The plain black version I tested is understated, with minimal design flourishes beyond subtle printed detailing. Inside, there’s a standard mesh lining, though some of the material near the zip and storm flap feels a little plasticky. The stretch fabric panels on the inside of the arms and down the torso provide movement and airflow but have a slightly scratchy finish. None of this feels flimsy, though, and the overall impression is of a solid, well-assembled garment rather than a cheap one. How comfortable is the Oxford Nexus two-piece? In my usual size, the fit was very good. I’m not built like a racing snake, yet the cut works exceptionally well for a more average build. Oxford told me it’s designed around a body type that isn’t ultra-lean race-spec, and that shows. It’s easy to get into and out of, and comfortable enough to wear all day at a track. Freedom of movement is excellent. The pre-curved arms make it easy to adopt a full racing tuck, and when hanging off mid-corner there’s no resistance or hip cramping. Sleeve and leg lengths work well in the riding position, and the stretch panels genuinely do their job without feeling baggy. I could arguably have gone down a size for a tighter, racier fit, but my usual size strikes a very good balance between comfort and security. The collar has light padding with a neoprene-style edge and remains comfortable even in hot conditions. Waist adjustment comes via Velcro tabs on the trousers, allowing you to cinch everything in once the two pieces are zipped together. How do you rate the protection? The Nexus jacket and trousers are CE certified to AAA under EN 17092, which is the highest abrasion resistance classification for motorcycle garments. That’s hugely impressive at this price point. The jacket includes internal armour at the shoulders and elbows, while the trousers feature armour at the knees and hips. External TPU sliders are fitted to the shoulders and elbows on the jacket and the knees on the trousers, with removable knee sliders for track use. No back protector is included as standard, though there is a pocket for one and I fitted my own during testing. At this level of certification and with armour that stays correctly positioned during aggressive riding, I’d feel confident crashing in it within its intended use. Considering many similarly priced alternatives only achieve AA, the Nexus stands out strongly on paper and in practice. What about weather-proofing? This is a perforated leather sports suit, so weather protection is not its primary function. There’s no waterproofing or thermal liner, but that’s entirely in keeping with its intended use. In hot conditions, particularly on runway runs and summer track riding, airflow through the perforations and stretch panels is noticeable and effective. It keeps you cooler than many non-perforated leather suits. I’ve ridden in early morning chill without discomfort, but it’s not designed for cold-weather touring. Is the Oxford Nexus a quality leather two-piece? While the leather isn’t as supple as more expensive suits, everything feels solidly put together. The stitching is strong, seams appear robust, and the armour stays in place during spirited riding. The zips have proven reliable over two years of use. After 24 months and 3500 miles, there are no significant signs of wear beyond minor colour rub on the ankle cuffs from being tucked into race boots. That durability, given the price point, is impressive. Is it practical for everyday riding? You get two external front pockets and internal pockets suitable for a phone when riding on the road, though practicality isn’t the main brief. The jacket and trousers connect securely, and waist adjusters help fine-tune the fit. I’d have no concerns about wearing an airbag underneath, provided you size appropriately. Subtle reflective details on the arms and chest add a small degree of road visibility despite the stealthy styling. There’s no standout innovation here, just a well-executed, functional design. Is this a good-looking leather? In stealth black, it’s understated and purposeful. I particularly like the black-on-black option for its subtlety, though white and red versions are available. The brighter colourways look a little cheaper to my eye, but that’s subjective. For its target market, it looks exactly as it should: sporty, aggressive and track-ready. Is the Oxford Nexus two-piece good value for money? At £299.99 for the jacket and £249.99 for the trousers, achieving full AAA certification represents exceptional value. Many similarly priced leather jackets and trousers are only AA certified. If it lasts even half as long as a premium suit costing significantly more, it makes financial sense. For riders prone to the occasional tumble, it’s far less painful to replace than a high-end alternative. I would absolutely buy it with my own money. Oxford has pitched the Nexus perfectly for newer riders, first-time track day users and experienced riders on a budget. It doesn’t pretend to be a premium, race-spec leather suit, but it delivers where it matters: fit, freedom of movement and top-tier CE certification at a genuinely accessible price. It exceeds expectations for the bottom end of the market and earns its five-star verdict on value and overall execution.
