Житель Галифакса призвал перенести концерты на холме Ситдел в более раннее время

Opinion: Downtown Halifax concerts need to start earlier Halifax municipal bylaw N-200 3 (1) explicitly states: “No person shall engage in any activity that unreasonably disturbs or tends to disturb the peace and tranquillity of a neighbourhood.” Events at Citadel Hill and the Garrison Grounds, however, are subject to federal jurisdiction and controlled by Parks Canada, not regional council. During the summer, there have been several concerts on Citadel Hill that have continued into the early hours of the morning, sometimes as late as 2 a.m. For many residents living close to Citadel Hill, these loud sounds disturb the quiet enjoyment of their properties and make it difficult to sleep. While Parks Canada may be within their rights to grant permission for late-night/early morning performances, in doing so they are not taking into consideration the interests of many downtown residents, all of whom pay municipal taxes, either directly or indirectly, nor is the spirit of the bylaw being respected. A simple fix would be to start and end some concerts earlier in the evening. I doubt that I and my family are the only people inconvenienced by loud noise. I urge anyone similarly affected to contact their elected council representative, as well as Parks Canada. Michael White, Halifax
