Университет Северного Запада объявил о старте недели сбора средств для помощи студентам с задолженностями

The North-West University (NWU) has announced the start of “Giving Week”, a fundraising initiative that lasts between 7th and 11th September. Percy Moleke, chairperson of the Board of Donors, explains in a video (embedded at the bottom of the page) that the giving week is intended to help final year students and those who have already completed their degree, so that they can stay enrolled and settle any outstanding debts. As we’ve covered for other universities, such as the University of Pretoria (Tuks) and University of South Africa (Unisa), this is a problem affecting many higher education institutions in the country. Students who have completed their studies and earned their qualifications are not actually granted said qualifications until debts are paid, leaving them in a desperate situation that is hard to remedy. The Giving Week from NWU is another attempt to address this situation. On social media, in the image shared above, NWU reveals that an impressive R1.68 million was raised in the totality of 2025 and that a further R200 000 is the goal for fundraising during Giving Week alone. These fundraising efforts end in the Purple Walk, taking place at the conclusion of Giving Week on 11th September. Across the NWU campuses, between 13:00 and 14:00, donors can pay to participate in the fun walk. Full details of the Purple Walk can be found here with notable information including a goody bag for the first 50 participants to donate R50 or more, and a mystery prize for the best dressed attendee. Those who would like to donate outside of the Purple Walk can do so from this informational page on the official NWU website. Here anyone can leave a once-off donation using the online payment portal, EFT, Zapper or SnapScan. A recurring contribution can also be made by setting up a debit order. “Behind every NWU student is a dream, a family, a future, and a story still being written. For some students, outstanding debt becomes the barrier between where they are and the qualification, they have worked so hard to complete. Giving Week is your opportunity to help change that. By supporting the NWU We Care Bursary Fund, you help deserving students stay on track, register for exams, graduate, and take the next step towards a brighter future. Every gift matters,” reads the website. Let's talk tech! Get the tech news you want to read. Take our reader survey and tell us how we can help you better.
