Боб Оденкirk: от адвоката Соло Гудмана до героя боевика Nobody

Bob Odenkirk has been an exceptional talent and an entertainment fixture since the late 1980s, when he began writing for Saturday Night Live. He cemented himself as a fantastic comedy writer, working on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and The Ben Stiller Show. One of my favorites to rewatch is Mr. Show with Bob and Dave, a series he co-created and starred in with David Cross. The sketches mix brilliant satire and often stupid humor, crafting wonderfully staged episodes that reinvigorated the format. In the 2000s, Odenkirk took on more diverse projects that set his career apart from its heavy comedy focus. He appeared in films like The Spectacular Now and Nebraska, and his season of Fargo's anthology series is a must-see. The role that made everyone stop and take notice was Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad. Vince Gilligan's TV series explored the tense story of a dying teacher–turned–drug kingpin. Among acclaimed performances from series lead Bryan Cranston as Walter White and villainous Giancarlo Esposito as Gus Fring, Odenkirk made a splash when Saul debuted late in the show's second season. The actor brought a duplicitous yet endearing nature to the strip-mall lawyer, willing to offer his clients illegal help. The character became so popular he earned a spinoff, Better Call Saul. Never one to rest on his laurels, the comedy star turned acclaimed dramatic actor set about becoming an action movie star, with his first outing rivaling John Wick. Bob Odenkirk Proves He Is Far From 'Nobody' in His Action Thriller Franchise Nobody casts Odenkirk in a role that feels fitting on the surface. He plays Hutch, a family man whose marriage is strained and whose kids don't respect him. Every day is a monotonous cycle of work and family that sees Hutch slipping into depression, clearly lost in the suburban lifestyle. When intruders break into his home, he appears weak in front of his family, playing the expected father role rather than unleashing what he's been hiding for years. Hutch was once an elite assassin known as an auditor. He leaves that life behind to raise a family, but the break-in knocks him out of his cycle and sets him on a path of escalating confrontations with the Russian mob. Nobody is an action comedy where Odenkirk combines his talent for humorous timing with the lightning-fast fight choreography and gunplay of a John Wick film. That is no accident, as John Wick creator Derek Kolstad wrote the screenplay. What most audiences did not expect was Odenkirk's dedication to the role, putting in a level of training akin to what Keanu Reeves endures for his action franchise. I remember the trailers highlighting Odenkirk's action scenes, teasing his fight on the bus and the bombastic finale. Nobody had me excited, and it was one of the first movies I saw in theaters after the pandemic shutdowns. It was the kind of experience that reminded me why watching films in a theater with a shared audience matters. The theater echoed with laughter and shocked gasps at the violence and spectacle, and no one left disappointed. Nobody impressed critics and audiences, earning 83% and 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively. Nobody 2 followed in 2025, with the sequel turning Hutch's family vacation upside down when a simple arcade interaction draws him into a local crime plot. It earned similarly impressive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, earning 76% from critics and 87% from audiences. Nobody turned its $16 million budget into $57 million worldwide. Nobody 2 had a bigger budget of $25 million but earned less at the box office, with $43 million worldwide. Hutch and Saul Goodman Couldn't Be More Different Playing Hutch in Nobody feels like another career reinvention for Odenkirk, and the character is the complete opposite of his most famous role as Saul Goodman. Hutch is a serious man who may be lost in monotony but still lives within the law. His past was full of bloody acts, but he has moved on and settled down. Hutch spends time sorting out personal issues, but his actions ultimately serve his family. Saul is a self-serving snake, willing to slither through the mud as long as he comes out clean. Better Call Saul explored how he shifted from Jimmy McGill, an earnest underdog trying to prove himself, into Saul Goodman, the shameless fixer who prioritizes money and self-preservation. Hutch solves problems with his combat skills, delivering humor through cocky charisma. That doesn't mean he isn't smart. He is a capable strategist, shown by the finales of Nobody and Nobody 2, which feature epic planned set pieces and clever improvised weaponry. Still, Odenkirk shows his diverse range, carrying Hutch's assured presence in a way that makes Saul Goodman seem like a completely different performer. Saul is a classic silver-tongued devil, capable of talking his way out of most situations. He's clever, but his impulsive behavior and willingness to break the law hold him back. He rarely acts in service of others unless there's an incentive for himself, especially after Better Call Saul. He'll prioritize self-preservation over everything else, even when it causes fallout for people he cares about, making him seem irredeemable. The prequel series fleshes out a sympathetic angle, but he's still a character you can never fully trust. His words are his weapons, and unlike Hutch, I'm not sure Saul knows how to throw a punch. Odenkirk Nails the Unique Double Life of Each Character Hutch has buried his assassin past, as his family sees him as a boring suburban father. That persona is part of an identity he adopted to lead a calm existence with his wife. Nobody sheds Hutch's mask for a life he's better suited to, putting his combat skills back to good use. This idea is expanded on in the opening scenes of Nobody 2 that show him working as an assassin again. What's brilliant is how Odenkirk shows Hutch's personality shift as he moves from a humdrum existence to living his true purpose, while still trying to hide it from his family. Saul Goodman leads an equally unique double life. Better Call Saul shows him trying to maintain normalcy with Kim Wexler, but his illegal actions create a web of lies. Odenkirk nails the persona switch, letting Kim see Jimmy while his duplicitous acts reveal Saul. His performance and arc let Saul take over completely, but the balancing act shows why Odenkirk earned so many Emmy nominations. Watching the actor evolve from Saul to Hutch has been a phenomenal journey. While Nobody 3 isn't guaranteed, Odenkirk has cultivated an action movie following eager for another installment.
