Руководство института спорта в Нигерии наградило сотрудницу 500 000 найр за регулярное посещение аэробных занятий

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, has rewarded a staff member of the institute, Miss Usifoh Godsthought, with the sum of N500,000 in recognition of her consistent participation in the organisation’s aerobics exercise programme. The reward was announced in a statement signed by Ben Ogbemudia, Special Assistant on Media to the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, ADC Abuja. Shaibu presented the cash reward to Godsthought shortly after Tuesday’s aerobics exercise as an appreciation of her dedication to the institute’s weekly fitness programme. Blueprint reports The gesture, according to the NIS boss, is aimed at encouraging staff members to make their physical health and general wellbeing a priority, while also demonstrating the importance the institute attaches to maintaining a healthy and productive workforce. Reward for consistent participation Godsthought, a staff member of the NIS who teaches French, has distinguished herself through her regular participation in the aerobics sessions since the programme began. Her consistency in attending the exercise sessions earned her the recognition from the institute’s management, with Shaibu using the occasion to encourage other members of staff to take greater advantage of the fitness initiative. The NIS Director General said the reward was not merely about recognising one individual but also about encouraging a culture in which members of staff understand that personal health and physical fitness are important components of professional effectiveness. He urged staff to see the regular exercise sessions as an opportunity to improve their health while also contributing to the development of a more energetic and productive working environment. NIS promotes healthy workforce The aerobics programme forms part of the NIS initiative to encourage physical activity and wellness among its workforce. The exercise sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday at NIS offices across the country, giving members of staff regular opportunities to engage in physical activity as part of their weekly routine. Shaibu noted that the sessions are designed to keep staff physically active and mentally alert, with the ultimate objective of improving their capacity to perform their duties effectively. For an institution whose mandate is closely connected with sports and physical development, the emphasis on staff fitness also reflects the broader importance of leading by example and promoting healthy living within the organisation. The DG stressed that regular physical activity can contribute to the wellbeing of workers and create the conditions for better performance. He therefore encouraged staff members to participate actively in the aerobics sessions rather than viewing them as an optional activity. Physical fitness and productivity According to Shaibu, a healthy workforce remains critical to productivity and effective service delivery. He maintained that staff members who pay attention to their physical and mental wellbeing are better positioned to contribute meaningfully to the objectives of the institute. The NIS boss consequently used Godsthought’s recognition to challenge other members of staff to demonstrate similar commitment to the programme. He said her consistency should serve as an example to colleagues and encourage them to develop the habit of participating in the exercise sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Beyond the immediate health benefits, Shaibu said the initiative was also intended to foster a stronger sense of wellbeing among staff, recognising that the performance of an institution is ultimately linked to the quality, commitment and welfare of its workforce. Management encourages staff participation The decision to reward a regular participant also highlights the management’s effort to encourage greater participation in activities designed to improve staff welfare. Rather than limiting wellness initiatives to general directives, the recognition of Godsthought provides an incentive for employees who demonstrate commitment to the programme and encourages others to follow suit. Shaibu reiterated that the institute would continue to promote wellness initiatives capable of supporting the health and wellbeing of its workforce. He urged members of staff to embrace the aerobics programme and make physical fitness a regular part of their lives, stressing that maintaining good health should be treated as an important responsibility by every employee. The Director General further encouraged staff to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the twice-weekly exercise sessions to remain active and mentally prepared for their professional responsibilities. NIS links staff welfare with institutional growth Shaibu reaffirmed that staff welfare remains an important component of the institute’s broader development objectives, noting that an institution cannot maximise its potential without a workforce that is healthy, active and committed to its responsibilities. He said the NIS would continue to support initiatives that promote staff wellness while simultaneously contributing to institutional growth and improved service delivery. The management’s approach, he added, is to create an environment where employees are encouraged not only to perform their official duties but also to pay attention to activities that support their long-term wellbeing. For Godsthought, the N500,000 reward represents recognition for her consistency in a programme that the institute hopes will become increasingly embraced by its workforce. For other NIS staff, the gesture serves as an encouragement to participate more actively in the aerobics sessions and other wellness activities promoted by the institute. The NIS management is expected to sustain its emphasis on physical fitness and staff wellbeing as part of efforts to build a healthier workforce capable of supporting the institute’s mandate and delivering its responsibilities effectively.
