Reform UK said it will overhaul rules for schools during its annual party conference in Birmingham. Reform UK has announced plans for every school to sing the national anthem and fly the Union Flag if Nigel Farage comes to power. Suella Braverman, the Party's spokeswoman on education and equality, announced the move at the party's annual conference in Liverpool. Speaking to a hall of members, she said: "One profound problem is how our schools are more likely to teach kids that they can be born in the wrong body or about Refugee Week than how great Britain truly is. "That is why under a Reform government, every school will sing the national anthem, our great hymns and be obliged to fly the Union Flag. "Throughout the rest of the world, school children learn to love their country. They understand it has faults and flaws, but they are taught to love what is theirs. Because what is a country?" Schools in the UK are not legally required to fly the Union Flag currently because flag flying for educational institutions remains a matter of local discretion rather than a mandatory national law. Ms Braverman suggested young people needed to "see what patriotism looks like". She added: "Britain is a collection of little streets, building little hamlets and villages that fold into towns and cities. We are a nation of accents, of cultures, of music, sport and literature, of rich history. Yet at school, we learn very little about this. "That is why we must save our education system. We need our young people to see what patriotism looks like if they are to have any sense of how great our country is. "That is why we will roll out a balanced patriotic curriculum." Reform UK in April indicated every state school would have to mount a visible portrait of King Charles in a communal space. The party pointed to a government scheme in 2024, when every state-funded school in the country was offered a portrait of the King, but most did not take this up.
