Библиотеки Юго-Восточного Саскачевана предлагают семьям завершить лето природными экспедициями

As summer begins to wind down, families across southeastern Saskatchewan still have opportunities to get outside and explore through programs offered by Southeast Regional Library. The Notice Nature Passport is available through libraries throughout the Southeast Regional Library area, with the Lampman Public Library participating for a second year. Exploring nature as a family Librarian Tawney Johnson said the passport is designed as a family activity, giving people different things to look for while spending time outdoors. “So you go out in nature, and there are just random pages of things to look for,” Johnson said. As families complete the activities, they can mark off the items they find. “As you fill it out, you just put your little check mark in there,” she said. Completed passports can be returned to participating libraries, with Johnson saying there are also small prizes available. “You have up until, I believe, October to bring it back,” she said. Getting outside before summer ends Johnson said the program has been well received in Lampman, particularly because of the community's walking trail. “This is the second year that we’ve been doing it, and it’s gone over quite well for our town here because we have the walking trail,” she said. Families can look for plants and animals along the trail, while others have taken their passports with them while camping. “Lots of people will take them when they go camping,” Johnson said. With the summer season nearing its end, Johnson said the passport is still an opportunity for families to make the most of the remaining warm weather. Regional park passes also available Libraries throughout the Southeast Regional Library area are also offering regional park passes. Johnson said the number of passes available depends on the size of each community. “Because of our population size, we only got one pass, but Estevan has multiple passes,” she said. The passes can be borrowed for one week, giving residents an opportunity to visit regional parks and explore outdoor attractions throughout the region. Johnson said that while Moose Mountain Provincial Park is well known, there are many other regional parks worth discovering. “Everybody knows about the Moose Mountain Provincial Park, of course, but there are so many other regional parks that offer camping and activities,” she said. “It’s worth it to be able to go and check it out.” As summer comes to a close, the programs offer families another chance to spend time outdoors, discover their local surroundings, and make use of the library's resources.
