Директор оркестра школы Valley Center Джефф Бек завершил 33-летнюю карьеру

Longtime school music teacher Jeff Beck retired this year after over 33 years as band director for both Valley Center Middle School and Valley Center High School. In to his dedication to musical excellence for over three decades in Valley Center, the Valley Center/Pauma Music Boosters and the public got together Sunday afternoon at Bates Nut Farm to celebrate Beck, and to reminisce. The event included a potluck, time for former students, staff and loved ones to share memories, and of course music by members of the Valley Center High School Marching Band and Drumline. The afternoon started with some time for former and current band members to gather, enjoy food, and socialize as well as greet Beck. Secretary of the Valley Center/Pauma Band Boosters, Lisa Milam, began the presentation portion by welcoming the honoree onto the stage where a director’s chair was placed. Beck was presented with two items a large trophy, in honor of the over 100 trophies that line the walls of both the middle school and high school band rooms, and his megaphone, a notable accessory fondly remembered by his students, now plated gold and encased for posterity. Milam shared, “These are for you to take home and remember your time here. It says ‘In recognition and gratitude to Jeff Beck, Valley Center Band Director 33 years of unanimous superiors. You kept the tempo and raised the bar. Though your baton may rest your music goes on. Thank you, Mr. Beck.’ ” The Roaring Jaguar Marching band then performed several songs often heard at Varsity Football Games including The “Valley Center High School Fight Song,” “Go You Jags,” “Ghostbusters” and “Crazy Train.” Beck shared stories and cracked several of his classic jokes throughout the afternoon. He said, “I just want to thank you all for being here. I loved teaching in Valley Center. It was so wonderful being here, and that’s why I moved here.” Later in the afternoon, students, loved ones and friends had the opportunity to share stories, and Beck was given the opportunity to lead the band one final time. Among pictures displayed were the High School and Middle School bands through the years—and a banner — signed by all who attended —and a book for people to share their favorite memories. Valley Center/Pauma Music Boosters President Veronica Hernandez noted: “He (Beck) was really excited. It was a team effort. Music Boosters came through and the community came together, and it was just a great time to come together and remember and celebrate his accomplishments.” The new band director will be announced at some point.
