MUSC Health is opening a new dental and oral care clinic in Florence that officials say will expand access to dental services across the Pee Dee and help train the next generation of dentists in South Carolina. The new MUSC Health Dental and Oral Care clinic is located at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center. MUSC Health will host a media tour of the new facility Thursday, September 10, at 2 p.m. The clinic will provide comprehensive dental care to patients in the region and will eventually serve as the home of MUSC's first dental residency program outside of Charleston, according to MUSC Health. Health officials said the facility is designed to address oral health needs in the Pee Dee while also strengthening the state's dental workforce by providing additional opportunities to train dental professionals. MUSC Health officials and staff from the new clinic are expected to discuss the services that will be available to patients, the need for greater access to oral health care in the Pee Dee and plans for the future dental residency program during Thursday's tour. The Medical University of South Carolina was founded in Charleston in 1824 and is the state's only comprehensive academic health system. MUSC educates more than 3,490 students in six colleges and trains more than 1,175 residents and fellows across its health system each year.
