Дэвид Манди завершил 36-летнюю карьеру комиссионера округа Клейборн, а Трэвис Лестер избран на вакантное место

Mundy recognized for 36 years serving as commissioner Published 10:20 pm Tuesday, August 25, 2026 Last Monday was the final Claiborne County Commission meeting for David Mundy, who has served as a commissioner from District 8 for the past 36 years. Mayor Mike Campbell took time to give a special recognition to Mundy for his years of service. “I know some of the county commissioners have served for many years and this is their last meeting, but I want to recognize one of them. David Mundy has served for 36 years,” he said. “That’s a long term and I served 28 years with him, we’ve been through a lot. I just wanted to recognize for his 36 years of service.” Mundy received a standing ovation from the entire commission as well as everyone in the gallery. “I appreciate everybody. I’ve enjoyed it, I really have,” Mundy said. “My grandpa back years ago, he was a Clark, and he served for 44 years. . . I’ve been in politics ever since I was that high. But I’ve enjoyed it and I appreciate working for this commission and working for the people of Claiborne County. “You’ve got to work for your district and you’ve got to work for the good of county.” Commissioner Steve Brogan said he appreciated Campbell for recognizing Mundy. “That’s a long time. We should have had him a plaque or something. That’s a long time for anybody to serve and he’s done such a good job, he really has. I think we should do that,” he said. Campbell said he would take care of getting a plaque made to present to Mundy for his years of service to the county. All of the other commissioners serving on their final meeting were also recognized and thanked for their service. In a separate matter, Travis Lester has been declared the winner of the third county commission seat from District 3, following a unanimous vote to break a tie by the Claiborne County Commission. In the August 6 election, Lester and Bob Brooks finished tied for the seat with both receiving 427 votes. During Monday’s meeting, Commissioner Stacy Crawford brought a resolution to break the tie. He cited Tennessee Code 2-8-111, which gives the county legislative body the authority to either cast a tie-breaking vote or call for a run-off election between the tied candidates. “It appears that candidate Robert ‘Bob’ Brooks has withdrawn from the election of said office and concedes the election to candidate Travis Lester,” he said in making the motion to declare Lester the winner. Commissioner Zach Mullins said Sheriff Brooks was unable to be at Monday’s meeting but had asked Mullins to read a letter he had written. “Ladies and gentlemen of the county court, it has been an honor and privilege to work with you for the last eight years. But after 40 years of public service, I’m ready to retire and spend my time with my family. Therefore, I am respectfully conceding my pursuit of third district county commissioner. Respectfully yours, Bob Brooks, Sheriff,” Mullins read. The commissioners voted 19-0 to declare Lester the winner and he will assume the role of District 3 County Commissioner on September 1.
