В доме в Реймонде обнаружен мумифицированный труп мужчины после шестимесячного игнорирования предупреждений

Mummified man found in Raymond home after long delay Published 1:30 am Tuesday, September 1, 2026 For seven months, warning signs outside a residence on Armstrong Street near Old Willapa in Raymond accumulated in plain view of responding deputies. The home’s water was disconnected, the power was shut off and mail piled up, including certified past-due notices. During four separate welfare checks conducted by Pacific County Sheriff’s Office deputies between January and February of this year, no effort was made to force entry to check on the well-being of Ricardo Eanes, 50, despite callers explicitly stating the resident might be dead inside. It was not until Aug. 18, at 1:24 p.m. — after the property was reacquired through a real estate contract forfeiture by the previous owner, who demanded the door be breached — that law enforcement finally entered. Inside, deputies found a mummified Eanes. His pet cat, which lived for an undetermined time after Eanes died, was found deceased by his side. First of many clues According to public records obtained by the Observer, the first reported sign of concern occurred on Jan. 7, when a friend of Eanes called 911 and reported that he had not seen Eanes since Oct. 15, 2025. Eanes had uncharacteristically stopped picking up routine bi-weekly egg deliveries and was not responding to text messages. “…[D]rove by res and seen a red tag from PUD in mailbox, poss deceased inside. 2 vehs parked at res, rp available by phone,” a dispatcher jotted down in the computer-aided dispatch log while speaking with the caller. The incident log shows that a deputy responded to the scene and did not make contact with Eanes. The deputy noted that he “made contact with one neighbor that saw him today, and the other within the last 2 weeks.” However, sources close to the response note that the deputy suspected the individuals were mistaken and informed a supervisor on-scene that something was off. Three weeks later, on Jan. 29, another caller requested a welfare check after receiving an email from a neighbor stating that the power had long been shut off. A deputy arrived, spent 19 minutes on-scene and cleared the call after logging that the subject remained uncontacted. The situation escalated on Feb. 4, when an official with the Willapa Valley Water District notified dispatch that the property had recorded “no water usage since November” and that utility bills were visibly hanging out of the mailbox. According to the CAD report, the responding deputy logged on-scene at 1:56 p.m. and cleared just 28 seconds later, noting “further investigation needed.” Later that month, on Feb. 17, the water district called dispatch again regarding the accumulating mail, door notices and a deputy’s business card that remained wedged untouched in the gate. A deputy returned the following morning, checked the property perimeter and cleared the call. However, he also allegedly made a smart move — he placed a flowerpot in the driveway to see if it would be moved. Weeks later, he allegedly drove by and noticed nothing had changed and pushed for action. Six-month lapse Per public records, the address then sat without law enforcement intervention for six months. The stalemate ended on Aug. 18 at 1:24 p.m. when the property’s former owner, Diane Valentine, contacted dispatch with the assistance of another individual who initiated the call. “She just got the property back from Ricardo Eanes, who was living on that property,” the unidentified caller said. “Me and the neighbor had called in a welfare check probably six months ago, and the last time I talked to a deputy from Pacific County, they still hadn’t located Ricardo, and that the [sheriff’s office] was afraid to go on the property because there were cameras…” “Okay, do you want a welfare check on Ricardo, or just the property?” a dispatcher asked. “Yes, well I am not sure if he is in the home — I mean no one has seen him,” the caller said. “So, I would like for someone to maybe see if there is anyone living in the home…” She clarified that no one had been inside the residence. “The last time I called, the deputy wouldn’t even go through the gate because he said there were cameras, and he was afraid. He was going to check in with an attorney in Pacific County to see about accessing the home,” the caller said. Eanes did have alert codes logged with dispatch that note he can be an issue for law enforcement. ‘Sheriff wouldn’t go in’ According to call audio, dispatch then spoke directly with Valentine, who joined the call: “For all I know he could be dead inside,” Valentine said. “We know he has never returned to the house, we know he has never gotten ahold of us. He just quit making his payments about 10 months ago, and finally — since the sheriff wouldn’t go in and check for us to see if he was even alive or still in there — I went through the process to get the house back in my name again.” Valentine noted that no one had entered the home during the forfeiture process, but that she intended to compel an entry because the deed was back in her name. Records obtained through the Pacific County Auditor’s Office show that Eanes had been purchasing the home from Valentine under a real estate contract signed on Oct. 10, 2012, for $600 per month. He failed to make monthly payments between August 2025 and March 2026, prompting Valentine to initiate forfeiture proceedings on March 29. The forfeiture process concluded on July 29 and was formally recorded with the auditor’s office on Aug. 7. Valentine called 11 days later from out of town to demand answers. Within 15 minutes of arriving on-scene, deputies breached the residence and immediately requested the Pacific County Coroner’s Office. During the entry, a neighbor called 911 believing a break-in was occurring and informed dispatch that Eanes had been missing for months. Under Washington state law and established Fourth Amendment exceptions, law enforcement officers are authorized to make warrantless forced entry under the Emergency Aid Doctrine when there is an objectively reasonable belief that an individual inside requires immediate medical assistance or has died.
