MP’s support for Toft Monks church fund-raiser Julianne McCarthy, of Saint Margaret’s Church in Toft Monks, near Beccles, has published a book about village life to raise funds for the church and village, and local MP Ben Goldsborough went along to lend his support. Julianne is church warden at St Margaret’s, and wrote the book, called The Church Warden’s Guide to Tea, Cake and Village Gossip, a humorous but fictitious account of life among familiar village characters. All profits from the book’s sales are set to bolster the Toft Monks Community Hub Fund, which aims to transform one end of Saint Margaret's Church into a vibrant community hub for classes, exhibitions, and events, fostering social interactions. The village currently has no village hall or community space. South Norfolk MP Ben Goldsborough attended the book launch in the village on 1 August. He said, “It was a real pleasure to visit Toft Monks to celebrate the launch of Julianne's brilliant new book in support of Saint Margaret's Church and the village community hub. It's another great example of local people coming together to support the place they call home. “The collection is packed with funny short stories inspired by people and events around the village. They're entirely fictional... although I couldn't help noticing one story features an MP called Bill who turns up to a Zumba, Prosecco and Cake event! Now, I do happen to know an MP whose name begins with B who attended a charity Zumba class last year... but I'm sure that's just a coincidence!” Mr Goldsborough congratulated Julianne on a ‘cracking’ book, and thanked everyone who came along, bought a book, enjoyed some cake and helped support what he felt was such a worthwhile local cause.
