Local mother finds peace after son's killer dies while serving prison sentence DEER PARK, Ohio (WKRC) - More than two decades after her son’s cold-blooded murder, a local woman said she finally has a sense of peace following the death of the woman who killed him. Troy Temar was 30 years old when he was murdered in July 1999. For years, his mother, Donna, fought to bring his killer to justice. His ex-girlfriend, Theresa Voss, was eventually convicted. She was still serving time in prison when she died last week. Flipping through her photo albums, Donna is reminded of all the memories her son left her with. He was well-liked, outgoing, fun, successful, and so much more. Though 27 years have passed since his murder, the pain is still there. His mother misses everything about him. “He'd come in and hang on that refrigerator door for five minutes trying to figure out what he wanted,” said Donna. “Bringing his dog and running all over the house with it. You know? I miss that part. I miss the phone calls.” This week brought back a lot of emotions for her, reopening wounds that have never truly healed. The news came after a missed call from her son. “When he texted me, I got a big headache,” Donna said. “I really did.” On July 4, 1999, Troy was shot to death. His body was placed in the back of a car and set on fire. In 2005, Voss and her brother were arrested. In 2006, Voss was convicted and sentenced to 33 years to life in prison. - “I always thought about that, what I would say. When she came up for parole,” said Donna. - “What would you have said, do you think?” Local 12 asked. - “Don't let her out. Do not let this person out. No,” said Donna. Voss would have been eligible for parole in 2038. Donna isn’t sure if she can celebrate knowing that day will never come, but she does have peace. While her life has never been the same, she says there is so much good around her -- including her friends, family, and especially her grandkids. Several of Troy's friends have honored his memory by naming their kids after him, and an annual golf outing in his name is still going strong. The Department of Corrections has not confirmed how Voss died, but Donna says she knows. Voss' brother served five years for helping his sister cover up the crime.
