Монтанский технологический университет запускает новые программы подготовки кадров для атомной энергетики

Montana Tech launches new nuclear energy programs MISSOULA, Mont. — Montana Technological University is launching two new programs designed to prepare students for careers in the growing nuclear energy industry. The undergraduate certificate in Nuclear Energy and Master of Science in Nuclear Energy were approved by the Montana Board of Regents in March 2026. The programs are designed to complement Montana Tech’s existing engineering and STEM programs while helping build the workforce needed to meet future energy demands. “Montana is at an energy crossroads,” Lance Energy Chair Bob Morris said in a press release. “We've been a net energy exporter for 50 years, but as coal comes offline, we risk no longer producing enough energy for ourselves.” Electricity demand in Montana is expected to increase 20% over the next decade, while the Colstrip power plant is projected to reach the financial end of its life in 2042. Morris said nuclear energy could help provide reliable, affordable and carbon-free electricity as the state plans for its energy future. The undergraduate certificate consists of nine credits. The master’s program offers 31-credit thesis and 36-credit non-thesis options. Students will not handle nuclear materials on campus. Hands-on training will instead take place through simulations or Montana Tech’s partnership with Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho Falls. Montana Tech plans to enroll students in the programs beginning in fall 2027. For more information, click here.
