В штате Коннектикут с 1 октября отменяют сирены на атомной станции Миллстоун в пользу мобильных оповещений

WATERFORD – Dominion Energy has begun a public awareness campaign to inform residents, workers and visitors near the Millstone nuclear power plant about the transition from outdoor sirens to mobile emergency alerts. The change will take effect Oct. 1. The new emergency alert system replaces outdoor warning sirens as the primary method of alerting the public with geographically targeted emergency alerts delivered directly to cell phones in the affected area. If an emergency occurs at Millstone Power Station, anyone living, working or visiting within 10 miles of the power station will receive an alert to their phone, just like AMBER or severe weather alerts. “Our priority is making sure our neighbors, workers and visitors understand this transition before it takes effect,” said Susan Adams, a Dominion spokesperson. “Mobile alerts can reach people directly whether they are at home, outdoors, in a vehicle or traveling through the area, while providing timely information and clear instructions during an emergency.” These emergency alerts will be delivered through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS). The emergency alerts will include a brief message directing recipients to a website and/or local television and radio stations for additional information and instructions. The Emergency Alert System will continue to interrupt regular programming on TV and radio to share emergency information and/or instructions. Connecticut residents near the power station may also receive CT Alert notifications through calls or text messages to registered mobile and landline phones at no cost. Fishers Island residents will continue to hear outdoor emergency sirens while also receiving mobile emergency alerts. Connecticut and New York emergency management agencies are coordinating the transition with Dominion Energy.
