Бывший член городского совета Ламбертона награжден за 55 лет службы на национальном съезде братства Омега Пси Фи в Цинциннати

CINCINNATI — Former Lumberton City Councilman and funeral director Douglas McMillan Jr. attended the National Conclave of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, which was held from July 30 to Aug. 3, bringing 30,000 brothers to downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. McMillan was recognized for 55 years of membership by Ricky L. Lewis, the fraternity’s international president. A certificate given to McMillan recognizes his years of “devotion and service” exemplifying the four Cardinal principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance and uplift. Lewis stated it was the largest registered attendance in the history of the 115-year organization. Lewis, of Los Angeles, was mentored and guided by Lumberton native Dr. Thomas Hayswood McPhatter, a resident of San Diego, who served as the 12th district representative for the fraternity in previous years. Highlights of the national event include the presentation of service certificates for members and the Founders Banquet, held on Sunday night, with General Lloyd J. Austin III, former U.S. secretary of defense and member of the fraternity, bringing the keynote address and the election of new officers. The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity was founded Nov. 17, 1911 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. It was noted during the business session of the convention that the fraternity has given $1.4 million to St. Jude Hospital over the past four years. In addition to McMillan, Montrel McLaurin of Lumberton and Oscar Bennett, of UNC Pembroke, also attended the convention in Cincinnati.
