These partnerships provide MCC students with the ability to continue their education while making the transition to university more accessible and affordable. University transfer enrollment increased 12% from the previous year, reflecting a growing number of students choosing MCC as a starting point towards a bachelor’s degree. MCC students also benefit from the North Carolina Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA), a state-wide agreement that guarantees the transfer of certain classes into UNC Universities and participating NC Private Institutions. Through NC State’s Wolfpack Connect program, MCC students pursuing an Associate in Arts (A.A.) or Associate in Science (A.S.) degree have guaranteed admission to eligible programs at NC State. Students must meet the programs requirements, including maintaining a 3.0 GPA and meeting the transfer admission deadlines. Wolfpack Connect offers access to more than 100 eligible majors and provides transfer planning guides to help students stay on track. MCC is also partnering with Western Carolina University’s WCU Connect, a transfer initiative designed to create a smooth transition from community college to university. The program provides a guaranteed admission pathway for eligible students who meet the requirements. “We are excited to partner with North Carolina State University and Western Carolina University to offer Martin Community College students new opportunities for transfer to four-year colleges and universities,” says Dr. Rochelle Mabry, MCC’s University Transfer Instructor. “NC State’s Wolfpack Connect and Western Carolina’s WCU Connect programs students can be accepted for guaranteed admission while they’re still earning their associate’s degrees at MCC. Just as importantly, these programs provide multiple resources to fully prepare them for their transfer journeys.” In addition, MCC students in technical programs have a dedicated pathway to ECU’s Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT) program through a bilateral agreement that guarantees admission for MCC graduates in eligible technical fields. Eligible MCC programs include Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology; Applied Engineering; Automotive Systems Technology; Electrical Systems Technology; Industrial Systems Technology; Information Technology; Mechatronics Engineering; and Welding Technology. Qualified students can enter the program with up to 75 transferable credits, which is approximately 63% of the bachelor’s degree requirements. ECU’s BSIT program offers seven concentrations, with five fully online options. Ryal Watkins, Division Chair of Advanced Manufacturing, states “An associate degree at MCC in an industrial trade provides a valuable foundation while keeping the door open to a university degree, with transferable credits that can reduce time and cost toward a bachelor’s degree.” He also emphasizes the importance of flexible learning opportunities, adding, “Online program options add the convenience and flexibility to advance your education while balancing work and other commitments.” These university partnerships reflect Martin Community College’s mission of building better futures for students in Martin and Bertie County.
