Полиция Maple Ridge запускает операцию «Безопасный старт» для защиты школьников на дорогах

Maple Ridge RCMP to launch ‘Operation Safe Start’ Published 11:45 am Friday, September 4, 2026 Maple Ridge RCMP is launching a new campaign on Tuesday Sept. 8, to ensure students are safe on the roads when they head back to school. “Operation Safe Start” will make sure every elementary school in Maple Ridge will have police presence at peak times for the first two weeks of school. During the enforcement and education blitz, officers will be checking that drivers are following speed limits, leaving their phones alone, and stopping for school buses and pedestrians at crosswalks. They will also be taking to kids and parents about following proper drop-off and pick-up procedures and making eye contact with drivers before crossing at marked crosswalks. Const. Sirak Gebresellasie with the Maple Ridge RCMP Family and Youth Resource Team (FYRST) explained the team wants to ensure as smooth a transition as possible for all road users especially students, parents, and school staff. “It is an exciting and busy time of year and taking the time to go over some simple road safety reminders with your family will make it a more positive experience for everyone,” Gebresellasie said. Police are warning that drivers must slow down to 30 km/h in school and playground zones and be vigilant for children crossing streets. Drivers should never block crosswalks and use designated drop-off and pick-up areas at schools. RCMP are advising residents to avoid distracted driving, including the use of mobile devices and allow extra travel time during peak school hours. They also want to remind families that e-scooters are not permitted on Maple Ridge roads or sidewalks. Children should stay on sidewalks, look both ways before crossing a road, and remain aware of their surroundings.
