Man climbing on overpass closed I-5 in south Everett Published 9:58 am Friday, August 14, 2026 EVERETT — A man was arrested after climbing on a freeway overpass in south Everett, resulting in the closure of I-5 during the Friday morning commute. Law enforcement responded around 7:45 a.m. to the area of I-5 near 128th Street Southwest where a man was allegedly hanging and climbing on a bridge, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said the 25-year-old suspect was wearing a full face covering when he climbed on the bridge and was noncompliant when ordered to get down. At this time, the sheriff’s office said his exact motive is unclear. Troopers first blocked all northbound lanes of the interstate before extending the closure to include the southbound lanes as well, the Washington State Department of Transportation said. The man was arrested around 8:15 a.m., deputies said. The freeway closure lasted about 30 minutes, but residual delays continued to impact traffic, according to WSDOT. The suspect was booked on suspicion of disorderly conduct, obstructing and trespassing, the sheriff’s office said. Ian Davis-Leonard: 425-339-3097; [email protected]
