Malawi Mourns Popular Film Translator Apollo Inc Published on August 13, 2026 at 2:03 PM by [email protected] Malawi is mourning the death of Apollo Inc, a popular Chichewa film translator who became a household name through his distinctive translations of Hollywood movies. Apollo, also known to many as G-Zone and associated with Madalo Entertainment, reportedly died after a short illness. He was among a group of pioneers who helped popularise the translation of foreign films into Chichewa, earning a strong following not only in Malawi but also among Chichewa-speaking audiences in parts of Mozambique and Zambia. Apollo became particularly known for his unique style of translating dialogue, introducing memorable expressions and phrases that became widely associated with his work. Some of the phrases frequently heard in his translations included “Wedulo,” “M’masomothinamo” and “pansana pako,” which became familiar to fans of Chichewa-translated movies. His work helped make Hollywood films more accessible to audiences who preferred watching them in Chichewa, while also contributing to the growth of Malawi’s informal film-translation culture. News of his death has since sparked messages of grief among fans and fellow members of the Chichewa film translation community. May his soul rest in peace. May God comfort his family, friends and everyone who knew and appreciated his work. Subscribe to our Youtube Channel:
