В Индии замечен новый отечественный легкий бронированный автомобиль для армии

A new Light Armoured Multipurpose Vehicle (LAMV) believed to be intended for the Indian Army has been spotted undergoing road testing, providing a glimpse of another indigenous protected mobility platform being evaluated for military applications. Images circulating online show a compact 4×4 armoured vehicle undergoing testing in an urban environment, although the manufacturer and exact programme associated with the particular prototype have not been officially confirmed. The vehicle is being informally linked to Mahindra Defence by observers, but this attribution should presently be treated as an allegation rather than an established fact. Mahindra Defence already has substantial experience with Indian Army protected mobility vehicles, including the Armado Light Specialist Vehicle. The Ministry of Defence awarded Mahindra Defence Systems a ₹1,056 crore contract in 2021 for 1,300 Light Specialist Vehicles for the Indian Army. The newly spotted vehicle should not automatically be identified as the existing Mahindra Armado. The Armado is a smaller light specialist vehicle designed for protected mobility, reconnaissance and weapon-carrier roles. Mahindra’s existing platform has a 3.2-litre turbo-diesel engine producing about 215 hp and can be configured for multiple operational roles. The LAMV category, meanwhile, addresses a broader requirement for a highly mobile protected vehicle capable of carrying troops and equipment while supporting reconnaissance, forward operations and asymmetric warfare. India’s defence procurement ecosystem is already pursuing such vehicles. The Department of Defence Production currently lists a 4×4 LAMV developed by BEML, describing it as a vehicle intended to protect troops against ballistic and blast threats while supporting reconnaissance and forward operations. The officially listed BEML LAMV has a 450 hp engine, automatic transmission and STANAG Level II ballistic protection, with STANAG Level 2a and 2b blast protection. BEML’s documentation also confirms that the Indian Army has a requirement for a 4×4 LAMV capable of high mobility, ballistic and blast resistance and carrying electronic systems for reconnaissance, forward operations and asymmetric warfare. The appearance of another prototype during road testing therefore points to increasing activity around India’s next generation of protected tactical mobility platforms. Such vehicles can provide a balance between mobility and survivability for troops operating in areas where conventional soft-skinned vehicles would be vulnerable to small-arms fire, mines, improvised explosive devices and other battlefield threats. The modular architecture of modern LAMVs also allows different configurations, including reconnaissance vehicles, command-and-control platforms, communications carriers, weapon carriers and specialised battlefield support variants. This flexibility is particularly relevant for the Indian Army’s requirements across mountainous terrain, border areas and counter-insurgency environments.
