Родни «Нова Скай» Мосли из Литл-Рок издал две книги с хайку о красоте повседневности

Little Rock’s Rodney "Nova Sky" Mosley brings haiku and heart in two new books LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — If you’ve ever wished you could bottle up a moment of calm — even on a hectic day — Little Rock artist and writer Rodney "Nova Sky" Mosley thinks haiku might be the way to do it. Mosley, an artist, writer, musician and philosopher from Little Rock, has leaned into haiku poetry as his newest passion, turning short, structured poems into two illustrated books: Summer Will Be Us and Caterpillar Dreams. Mosley said the inspiration traces back to his late father, whom he cared for from 2014 to 2017. He’s been writing since he was 16 and said that after his father died, longer-form writing felt harder to finish. He discovered haiku and described the form as a way to capture ideas quickly — even in the middle of everyday stress. Mosley compared haiku to “miniature puzzles” that let him challenge himself to get an idea out in the moment rather than trying to complete a longer piece later. Over time, he said he began writing several haiku a day. His best friend, Michael Scott, encouraged him to turn the growing collection into a book. That led to Caterpillar Dreams in 2019. After writing many more poems in the years since, Mosley released his second book and said he has embraced the “author side” of his life. For anyone new to the form, Mosley explained that a haiku is a three-line poem with a syllable structure: five syllables in the first line, seven in the second and five in the last. He said the topic can be anything — from daily life to whatever is happening around you. As for what he hopes readers take away, Mosley said he wants people to find joy in small moments and notice the beauty in everyday life — the kind of details that can get lost in the rush of work, bills and busy schedules. He also encouraged people to believe in their own creativity, saying that if you made something, it matters because it exists through you. Mosley also hosts writing workshops. His most recent workshop was held at Laman Library in North Little Rock on August 1, and he aims to offer one every two months, posting updates on his social media page. He said his next workshop is a closed session at Laman Library for women veterans only, running from September 12 to October 10. Mosley said he plans to teach haiku poetry while mixing in recovery dynamics, with a focus on building a safe, supportive space for participants to create art and bring “joy, love, empathy” into their lives.
