It's the opening night of a six-city tour that wraps up before Halloween, when the movie hits streaming services. Powell bypassed big studios completely. He went independent with a direct-to-consumer approach instead, per Action News Jax. Rich Broke Entertainment teamed up with Swirl Films to get it done, and Powell both starred in and executive produced the project. The plot centers on a comedian who purchases a beat-up old summer camp, planning to turn it into a retreat for other comics. Things go sideways fast when a ghost shows up seeking revenge, picking off performers in ridiculous fashion. The cast includes JaySki, Just Brittany, Erica Duchess, Nod Ross, MoneyBags Mafia, Tyler Chronicles, and Navv Greene — together they've got over 45 million followers across social media. "I just wanted to make something that felt like me; funny, crazy, unexpected, and something people can actually have a good time watching," said Lil Duval in a statement to Action News Jax. He added, "We made the movie, we made it our way, and now we're taking it straight to the people." Eric Tomosunas runs Swirl Films as founder and CEO. He explained that paying for everything themselves meant keeping total ownership of the property and deciding exactly how to release it. "Self-financing allowed us to retain complete control over the IP, the distribution and how we engage the audience for this film," said Tomosunas in the release, per Action News Jax. Powell grew up in Jacksonville and finished at First Coast High School before heading to Atlanta. Duval County inspired his stage name. His comedy career exploded around 2001 when Cedric the Entertainer's managers tapped him for a nationwide stand-up tour that hit multiple cities. Music brought him mainstream success in 2018. "Smile (Living My Best Life)" dropped with Snoop Dogg and Ball Greezy, climbing to No. 56 on the Hot 100. The RIAA gave it Platinum certification in August 2025. Last December, Powell went back to Raines High School and pitched in $10,000 so the marching band could make the trip to Miami for their state championship game. Each tour stop offers red carpet arrivals, DJ sets spinning live, merchandise for sale, and Q&A sessions after the screening. Jacksonville kicks things off, then Sun-Ray Cinema in Tampa gets its turn on Sept. 17, Premiere Cinemas in Birmingham on Sept. 24, Belcourt Theatre in Nashville on Oct. 8, Belair Luxury Cinema in Detroit on Oct. 15, and Tara Theatre in Atlanta wraps it up on Oct. 29. AMC Theatres will show the film in select locations before it drops on streaming platforms on Oct. 31. Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and CampDuval.com will all carry it. Tickets and tour details are up on the official website. Autumn Wingate Writer Trending Stories More from FayettevilleNewsroom.com
