Princess Senate Seeiso from the Kingdom of Lesotho has been appointed as the National Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Her duties include acting as a bridge between the UNDP and local communities, “fostering greater public engagement” to improve the lives of Basotho. She will focus on matters related to equality and sustainable development. According to an official statement from the UNDP, the young royal will also “place particular emphasis on women, decent work, social inclusion, and the goals that underpin Lesotho’s development agenda.” PRINCESS SENATE APPOINTED UNDP AMBASSADOR The UNDP stated that its mandate aligns perfectly with Princess Senate’s values and advocacy. This partnership aims to address issues engulfing the country by working alongside communities and encouraging participation in creating a future that cultivates inclusion and sustainability. “The appointment pairs UNDP’s development mandate with Her Royal Highness’s public platform and commitment to issues central to the lives of Basotho.” “Together, we aim to strengthen public awareness of development priorities and encourage broader participation in building an inclusive and sustainable future.” Princess Senate embraced this incredible opportunity with grace and penned a heartfelt caption on Instagram. “I am honoured to accept this role as UNDP National Goodwill Ambassador for equality and sustainable development.” “I accept it as a commitment to listen, to serve, to amplify the voices of our people, and to help mobilise action for a more equal, inclusive and sustainable future for all Basotho.” The 24-year-old royal expressed her utmost gratitude to the UNDP for believing in her. In particular, she thanked Dr. Jacqueline and the entire team for their collaboration and continued dedication to the people of Lesotho. “To UNDP, thank you once again for bestowing your confidence in me. I want to extend my particular thanks to Dr. Jacqueline Olweya – UNDP Resident Representative, and to the entire team at UNDP Lesotho, for their partnership and their unwavering commitment to the people of this country.” A TRUE ADVOCATE FOR THE PEOPLE OF LESOTHO Additionally, the spirit of community service led Princess Senate to launch her foundation, Shoeshoe ea Moshoeshoe, in March 2026. In an empowering school drive initiative, she presented essentials such as school shoes, stationery, and sanitary pads for girls. She described the school campaign as: “We are reminded that charity starts at home, and my commitment to the Basotho child does not end here.” “This initiative marks only the beginning of our sustained efforts to uplift disadvantaged learners across the Kingdom.” Her Royal Highness Princess Senate Seeiso, first-born daughter of King Letsie III and Queen Masenate Seeiso, is the granddaughter of the late Basotho monarch, King Moshoeshoe.
