Monster Day began a decade ago with a costumed pitch to the Greeley DDA by Ed Edmunds, founder of Distortions Unlimited.
“I come in with this Creetonian Elder mask — a big-headed alien — and a lab coat,” Edmunds said. “It was first-class, movie-quality stuff. I thought, ‘This is going to be the hardest sales pitch of my life.”
What followed was a decade of Monster Day celebrations that have brought people from around the country to Greeley.
The event has undoubtedly been a massive success, drawing thousands to downtown Greeley each year. But just like an old vampire, the organizers said, it finally came time to put a stake in it.
Although the beloved event wont be returning as Monster Day, for Edmunds and his wife, business partner and co-inventor of Monster Day, Marsha Paud-Edmunds, it has always been about bringing them closer to their community.
“The best thing about Monster Day for us was that it connected us to the city,” Edmunds said. “We got to know people.”
