Las Vegas community demands investigation after nonprofit announces plans to close
Former employees and board members demand transparency and investigation into workplace treatment and financial decisions
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Community members are calling for an investigation into a local nonprofit that supports immigrant workers after the organization announced plans to close.
The Arriba Las Vegas Worker Center, which provides work training and labor rights support to immigrant workers, said it plans to sunset or transition its programs by July 30, 2027. The organization also said it will close its legal department this month.
Protest draws former employees, board members
Former employees and board members held a protest Wednesday, calling for greater transparency about the organization’s future and the impact on those who rely on its services. They are also seeking an investigation into workplace treatment and financial decisions, and said they hope the center will remain open.
One speaker at the protest described the stakes for the workers the center serves.
“There are workers who don’t receive protection, who don’t have hope. This place is hope. They are, in their workplaces, probably facing retaliation, facing abuse. So, who is going to answer the question when they try to walk in on this place about the concern in their workplace?” the speaker said.

Organization responds with statement
In a statement, Arriba Las Vegas Worker Center said it presented a proposed transition plan to its membership at a meeting last Saturday for a vote.
“The proposal to sunset the organization was not made lightly and was made after careful considerations of the current funding environment and the long-term financial realities facing the organization,” the statement said.
The organization said current legal department clients have been offered the opportunity to change providers at no cost. It added that its focus is on “carrying out this transition with care, transparency and respect for our clients, partners, staff and community.”
The center said it would not comment publicly on personnel matters out of respect for the privacy of current and former employees.
