Lake Mead warns dry-looking mud can trap vehicles Officials say dry-looking ground near the shoreline can hide soft mud that traps vehicles LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Areas near the shoreline at Lake Mead that look dry and solid can hide deep, soft mud capable of trapping vehicles, including large, modified 4x4s, according to Lake Mead National Recreation Area. MORE ON FOX5: No impacts to Lake Mead, but debris anticipated from Grand Canyon flooding When accessing areas where vehicles are permitted near the shoreline, drivers should know their mud, according to the recreation area.
